To say that golf is a sport played in the head would be something of an understatement. There are few other sports which rely so much on the psychological skills of the player almost as much as the physical. Improving your mental game of golf is vital to making you a better all-round golfer.

One of the easiest ways to improve is to read more about the sport. There is a vast treasure trove of golfing literature out there, from books about great events, books on strategy and biographies of golfing greats. Explore this library as much as you can; reading and thinking about the game from as many different perspectives as you can will improve your game immensely.

Other great mental golf tips come from paying attention to what the top professionals say and do. Many top players go through some kind of psychological crisis in their careers, which often requires quite drastic psychological work; others merely need to tweak how they play on occasion. Listening to and reading interviews with players will often give you great insight into how they resolved any issues, offering you some good guidance for your own golfing career.

It also pays to read widely about matters away from the sport itself, whether that be about strategy, psychology or, indeed, other sports.
