Catch and Release is Easier when Using Landing Nets

Fishing is a sport with a great variety of gear. Among the equipment particularly favored are landing nets, favored because of their usefulness. To make fishing a better experience, a measuring device is built into the net. After lifting the net from the water, measure and weigh the fish. The fish, secure in the net, remains untouched. With all the different styles of nets available, why do anglers choose landing nets? It is great for the angler and beneficial to the fish. If a person is fishing from a boat, it helps land the fish quickly once hooked. Netting the fish makes landing a quicker process. The sooner the fish is in the boat and off the hook, the quicker it is to cast out for another strike. More and more areas are advocating catch and release programs and this is an excellent design for that purpose. The leaping that usually results in the fish slipping off the hook is subdued and lessens the chance of a hook in the hand.

Netting a fish takes a certain level of skill and when not done properly the result is often a lost catch. It is discouraging to have the catch of a lifetime and lose it. Drop the net in the water beyond the fish. Submerge the net most of the way down, leaving some of the rim showing. Guide the fish carefully to the net and in.
