About the Author:
The history of aikido covers more than a century. Morihei Ueshiba was the founder of the contemporary technique. The Wakayama prefecture of Japan produced this son in 1983. He is often known as Osensei, or great teacher. His father was politically active and owned a lot of land and businesses that brought him wealth.
Ueshiba was sickly as a child and his father encouraged him to train as a sumo. The young child decided to become as strong as he could in the martial arts. This decision was made after his papa suffered a physical attack at the hands of political opponents.
All the skills he learned during his lifetime are incorporated into the martial art that Osensei is famous for. That is why unarmed combat as well as sword and spear fighting are included in the sport. He was born into a samurai family and learned all the principles that are taught to warriors.
As he grew older, he sought more of a spiritual basis for life and studied the religion called Omotokyo. This led him to conclude that it was essential to train both the mind and the body. He was further enlightened during a contest with a naval officer, in which he said he was able to see everything his opponent did before it happened.
Its founder originally called the sport aikibudo and built a dojo for it in Tokyo during the year 1927. In a few years Ueshiba founded the Enhancement Society for budo. He became the chief instructor and carefully selected his students, although the activity had already grown tremendously in popularity by 1920.
When World War Two ended, aikibudo spread to the world. It reached the United States in the 1950s, teaching the philosophy of harmony and oneness with others and the earth. The history of aikido shows that Osensei thought that each day was a new opportunity for people to bathe themselves in wisdom and love.
