So you are looking at buying a pair of K2 skis but you don't know how to choose the right model, let alone understand the technology. I was so confused by all the choice that K2 offers so I want to give you a step by step guide on K2 skis technology so you can make the most informed choice.
The primary piece of technology that we need to understand is Rocker technology. Rockers are the reverse of what is known as a Camber. Camber skis were made to bend upward in the middle, skis have been made with Camber technology for years. So Rocker technology is simply where a ski bends downwards in the middle, this is very new technology. Essentially each end of the ski is pushed upwards by the downwards pressure in the middle. Because the tips clear the snow, it makes turning and dealing with powder snow a lot more simple.
Suprisingly rockers are fantastic for skiers of all levels, they make skiing off piste a breeze and their turning technology makes learning to ski that much easier. In order to help the consumer, K2 have created five different categories of Rocker skis based on ability and skiing preferences. They are, All Terrain, Catch Free, JIB, Powder and Speed. It is important to learn more about these categories as rocker technology is generally considered to be the future of skiing.
For all intermediate and advances skiers all-terrain rockers are the way to go. Although they lack the specialization that expert skiers may require, they allow the skier great control both on and off piste and are a great go to ski when you want to explore the whole mountain. Beginners should consider using catch free rockers, they are highly maneuverable and much lighter making it that much easier to learn how to turn. For the advanced and specialist skiers looking for something extra, the names say it all. If you are into terrain parks check out the JIB models. For racing skiers, the speed models are your best although note that they should only be used on firm snow. Finally for the guy or girl who plans on skiing powder all day long, go for the Powder range.
